Ringing in the New Year and Mary Laine's Second Birthday

We had a great start to 2011! After our Christmas beach trip, we went to Atlanta to ring in the new year with our dear friends, the Galbreaths. We had a great time hanging out and catching up as usual (with that one exception from our visit this time last year). We spent time playing games, eating a ton of really yummy food, and just hanging out. Mary Laine LOVES Carter and Kelsey and kept asking for them after we left to come home. Here are a few pictures from our visit.

The BOAT!! All four of our kids now have spent countless hours here.
Hey sis - this is my toy. Hands off!

Carter took Mary Laine for a spin in his shiny new truck

Gary and I decided that we would save Mary Laine's birthday parties and presents for her half-birthday every year since her birthday is so close to Christmas. That is still the plan, but we decided to mark the day with hats, cake, and a trip to Chuck E Cheese's. I know, sounds like a party, but we're still planning on celebrating with her Greenwood friends this summer. Mary Laine is not a big fan of hats (or anything that goes on her head), so in the few brief minutes that she tolerated this birthday hat, I had the camera out shooting away.

Before lunch, we had to go by Babies 'R Us, so we told Mary Laine that she could pick out a birthday toy. We were very proud that she picked a Grover stuffed animal that is completely silent - ahhhh!
She is very into Sesame Street these days, so she loved her Sesame Street cake.
We tried out several rides, but this is the one that she asked to ride over and over and over again. I'm not a huge Barney fan, but when he puts a smile like that on my kid's face, I could grow to love him. I think that we spent 90% of her tokens here.
And this was Langdon's response to all of the excitement
Not quite sure what Gary and Carter are doing here,
but this pic was too precious not to share.

We ended the night by going out to eat with the Galbreaths and then on to watch a Kennesaw State basketball game. The kids and I only made it through half-time, but we'd like to think that we helped to cheer them onto victory! :-)

While We're On the Subject of Grammar...

...I got a kick out of this video. (And I promise to post an update on the kids soon - I know that's the only reason that you're even checking this blog.)

Two Spaces After a Period. All these years I've been doing it wrong, and I never knew.

Big Snow! Not really....

We were supposed to have a big snow storm last night (the Weather Channel predicted anywhere from 5 to 9 inches. We only ended up getting about a half an inch, but Mary Laine sure had fun when it was coming down.

She has also picked up the use of the word 'GUYS!". We are not sure where that is coming from, but it is pretty funny to hear her use it. She kind of has a tough time moving around in the 7 layers of clothing we have her in, but she and Deacon had a blast running around the yard.

Budding musician

He was mesmerized listening to Gary play his guitar. Maybe a future passion?

Christmas 2010

This year we spent Christmas at the beach (St. Simons Island) with the Sturdivant side. It was a fairly last-minute decision to pack up and leave home for Christmas, but it was so relaxing and definitely a good choice.

Deacon really wanted to come with us!

Uncle Jimmy and Aunt Kate came to see us

Christmas Eve

Presents!!

This is how we spent our Christmas afternoon:

Playing with Christmas presents before church

First CUP of crab soup at the Crab Trap

Mary Laine playing in all of the presents (decoration in the lobby at the K&P)
Langdon's first meal at a Japanese Steakhouse

Mary Laine wasn't sure what to think of the big fire

Gary has taught her to snuggle up close when it's cold - one of his favorite "games"

This is how we found her that morning - notice the impish grin.
And she was diaperless the next morning. Oh, the fun!

Uncle Andy, Aunt Kelly, Jacob and Payton came to see us.

The only thing that we don't like about the beach is having to say goodbye!
