Weekend in Charleston
I got to spend last weekend in Charleston with some of my favorite girls.

While I was gone, Gary got to experience his first Greenwood Christmas Parade. The whole town shuts down for the day and everyone heads downtown or to Grand Blvd to watch. Since I took the camera with me to Charleston, he didn't take any pictures. I got this one from a friend - only in small town Mississippi will you see farm equipment featured in the parade. Ha!

November Vacation
Last week, Gary and I got to experience something that was new for us. For the first time in
about 5 years, we got to go on vacation during basketball season (well, actually, part of our vacation was to watch KSU play Auburn, so I don't know if this one counts :-) ). We started with a few days at the beach in St. Simons. It was very quiet and relaxing there. This is our favorite place in the world and we always love it when we get to go for a few days.
On Saturday night, we went to Atlanta to spend some time with friends and family. It was so encouraging to go to church on Sunday morning and see both old friends and new faces. The church is growing very quickly and it is so exciting to see all that God is doing with that body. For those of you who were out of town, we are so sad that we missed you, but hope to see you the next time that we're in Atlanta.
On Monday morning, Gary went to play golf with three of his friends, and I got to
We ended our vacation with a trip to Auburn to the Kennesaw vs Auburn basketball game.

October
I'm sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time. I'll try to catch everyone up
on all that has happened over the past month. During
the first week in October, I (Kathryn) got to go and spend a few days with my nieces in Knoxville. My sister-in-law, Catherine, was out of town for a few days, so I got some great one-on-two time with the girls. It was such a precious time for me to get to know a little more of their personalities. At the end of my visit, I had a new appreciation for mothers of young children, but I had a great time and really didn't want to leave.
In the second week, Gary and I got to attend a dinner hosted by the Boy Scouts honoring my
dad's family. We got to see alot of friends and family from across the state. It is always such a blessing to be able to reflect on the lives of grandparents while they are still living, and this was a great occasion for that. Former Mississippi Governor William Winter was the keynote speaker. Gary and I really enjoyed it and appreciate those of you who traveled to be there.
Perhaps the most exciting thing that has happened in our family in the
month of October was the last day of harvest!! Gary has been hard at work over the past few months and we are grateful for a reprieve. As we were in the final few weeks of harvest, I realized that colleges were entering their first days of basketball practice, and I became very thankful that Gary was finishing up his busy season rather than just getting started. The farmers were pleased with this years' crops and are now preparing the fields to plant wheat. Here is a picture of the two of us in a cotton field that is right across from Gary's office.
Last Friday, Gary and I got to go to Pillow Academy for a Pep-Rally paying tribute to
all of the senior football players, cheerleaders, and dancers. To my sister Susanne's great embarrassment, my parents donned a tutu and coach's uniform to take center stage and dance to the tunes of High School Musical. After many hours spent perfecting the dance and getting their outfits together, they did a great job and succeeded at both humiliating and honoring Susanne. Copies of the blackmail video will be available for purchase.
To our friends in Atlanta, Gary and I will be coming to town in a few weekends, so we hope to catch up with you all soon.

Atlanta Young Life Golf Tournament

We had a chance to take a quick trip to Atlanta this Monday so that Gary could play in the Atlanta Young Life Golf Tournament at Hawks Ridge in Ball Ground. This is one of the top 100 courses in America and Gary has been wanting to play there for years, so he couldn't pass up the opportunity. I got to spend the day with Shannon and Carter. Carter is growing up so fast!! Although it was a long way to go for such a short time, it was definitely worth it! And to our friends and family in Atlanta that we didn't have a chance to see (sorry Mom and Dad!), we hope to be able to make another trip soon.

Has It Really Been 5 Years?!?
Gary and I just went to Winston-Salem for our 5-year college reunion. The years have really flown by! It was great catching up with old friends and getting back for a football game. We beat Army 21-10 for those of you who don't follow Wake Forest football (although I know that all of you do, right? :-) ). To those of you who couldn't make it, we really missed you and hope to see you next time. Go Deacs!

YoungLife

Last week, I started working with Delta Urban Young Life. Quiana, the area director, started Young Life in this area about 5 years ago and I am very excited to be a part of this ministry. Right now, the main focus of the ministry is in Tchula, MS (about 30 miles down the road from Greenwood), but the goal for the next few years is to bring a Young Life Club to the high schools in Greenwood. God has already started to stretch me in the past few days, and I am very excited to see all that He will do with this ministry in the coming years. You can click here to see the Delta Urban Young Life website.

Home At Last!
Well, after months of waiting, we are finally in our new home! We closed on our house in Atlanta (after a few delays) last Friday, and then closed on our new home in Greenwood on Monday. I have spent the week unpacking boxes. Slowly but surely we are starting to get settled. Although it feels as though we will be living among boxes for the next year, it's a project that I am grateful to have. The "K&G" is now open for business and we are expecting all of you to come for a visit soon! Thank you all for your prayers and support throughout the process. We are thrilled to now be able to call Greenwood home and are looking forward to this next chapter in our lives.

5 States in 14 Days
After a long trip around the southeastern US, Kathryn is finally back home - w
ell, for a few days, anyway. My parents and I first headed up to Asheville, NC to visit my grandparents. Although they live in Mississippi, they spend their summers in Asheville, and I hadn't had a chance to see much of them since Gary and I came to Greenwood. It was great few days. We had great weather, great food, and a great chance to catch up. Grandmom, Mom and I got to spend our last afternoon there visiting the Biltmore Estate. It was my first time to go there and I was very impressed!
We left Asheville to spend a few days with my Aunt Pat,
Uncle Jim and cousin Claire at the Reserve on Lake Keowee. Susanne also joined us there for the last day. Again, great weather, great food, and great company. A couple of highlights of the trip were a day out on the lake and croquet and ping-pong tournaments at night. Claire and I also learned alot about the area by getting lost a few times. :-) We decided that we were doing everyone else a favor by figuring out the shortest routes to and from town. However, I'm not sure if anyone else saw it from our viewpoint.
While in the Carolinas, we made several trips to Camp Greystone to visit S
usanne. The area was as beautiful as ever and it was good to go for a visit and see a few old friends. Susanne was in the Synchronized Swimming Water Show and was the Lieutenant of her team for the summer, so we got to see her in action. She had a great time and I know that she is sad that her summer break has almost come to an end.
From Lake Keowee, we left to go to St. Simons. Most of my dad's siblings were
there with their families, and it is always great to spend time with them. As my generation of cousins has gotten older, it is becoming more and more difficult to get us all in the same place at the same time, so we really appreciate the time that we do have together. The weather was perfect, and there wasn't much downtime between the golf, tennis, and swimming. I did, however, have time to squeeze in a couple of books as well.
Finally, I left for Atlanta to celebrate my brother-in-law Jimmy's birthday.
Nearly the entire Dyksterhouse clan was there - we were only missing my better half. For many of us, this was our first chance to meet Andy and Kelly's foster child, Hannah. She is adorable and a great addition to our family. Hannah makes the fifth grandchild, which certainly adds to the excitement around the house. Most of our time was spent at the pool, but there was also the birthday party (of course!) and games of ping-pong, shuffleboard, and touch football in the backyard. Although Jacob (aka "Big House") was a tough contender, the girls won by one touchdown with 3-year old Ainsley running in our final goal.
While I was busy playing, Gary was at home working in the 100 + temperatures. They are in the process of cutting their corn which has required many long and hot days. He is quickly becoming acquainted with the unmerciful heat of the Mississippi Delta. He is enjoying his time, but also looking forward to the end of the harvest season.
Please be in prayer for us as we are in the process of packing and moving our things in Atlanta and preparing the house in Greenwood. We are excited about finally getting settled into our new home, but are not particularly looking forward to the moving process. Pray that packing is as painless as possible and that things go smoothly at each of our closings. Hopefully by my next post, we will be able to say that we are official Mississippians!

We have a contract
Yes, after being on the market for almost four months, we have a contract on our house. For
those of you who have been praying along with us that the house would sell, thank you! The timing is actually perfect as we will be able to move directly into our new house in Greenwood. We will be spending the majority of the next month packing, planning, moving, and closing. Kathryn will be in Atlanta almost every weekend in the month of August while Gary stays in Mississippi for the harvest season. We are very excited to be able to look ahead and anticipate moving into our new house. Praise God with us for this answer to our prayers.

A Taste of Mississippi Culture

We have been very busy the past couple of weeks. We went to Memphis to the PCA General Assembly on June 13 to hear R.C. Sproul speak. We sat with our good friends Mike Glass and Matthew Means and were very encouraged to catch up with them and to hear about the great things that God is doing in both of their churches. We were also able to eat some of those famous Rendezvous Ribs for dinner before the service began.
We went to Jackson on June 15 to celebrate our anniversary (5 years!!). We

Gary has been busy at work and he has been bringing some delicious corn

Last night we went out for dinner and theater. We went with a group of friends to a new

We have quickly discovered that, just because we have moved away from Atlanta, we continue to have many opportunities to be culturally enriched.

In the Swing of Things

I spent last week helping out with Vacation Bible School at our church. We had 104 children attend (27 in my 5-K class). It was a tiring week, but I enjoyed getting to know the children and seeing them get excited about the gospel. Although Gary and I aren't in many pictures, you can go to http://www.wpcgreenwood.org/Photo/PhotoAlbum.aspx?guid=5380e281-378b-478a-93f2-4103a6a22909&pagenum= to see the children and the decorations.
The PCA General Conference is in Memphis this week, which is only a couple of hours away. We are planning to go on Wednesday night to hear R.C. Sproul speak. Although we miss Atlanta, we are making some great friends and enjoying our time here. Please continue to pray that our house in Atlanta would sell quickly so that we can get moved into our new house in Greenwood.

Sweet Home Mississippi
We arrived in Greenwood, MS on Friday, May 18th, and are officially living in small town USA. I started work today (Monday, May 21st), and Kathryn is busy trying to settle in our spacious one room apartment on Grand Blvd. For those of you who are not aware, we have officially moved in with the parents until our house sells in Atlanta. Thankfully, Kathryn's parents (Walker & Lanie) don't mind hosting us for a short while during this period of homelessness.
Speaking of our home in Atlanta: we have had solid but unspectacular interest from visitors to our home in the past several weeks. As the school year ends, we are hoping that the number of people interested will increase, and that God will provide a purchaser for our lovely home. We miss it already. We have already put a contract on a home in Greenwood, and fortunately we were able to work out a contingency that allows us to wait until our previous home sells, before having to purchase the new one. Regardless, we are looking forward to completing the move from Atlanta, and truly starting to make our home in Mississippi.
We were greeted with a significant surprise upon our arrival to our church home this past Sunday. At the end of our first church service as Mississippians, the pastor made the announcement that he would be resigning from his post as teaching elder of the congregation. Obviously we did not see this coming, and based on our experiences with him on the pulpit, we are sad to see him go. Despite this shock, we are very excited with the Grace based gospel that is preached both on the pulpit and in the relationships that we have already been able to form.
All in all it has been an eventful weekend, and we look forward to some normalcy in the coming weeks. Here is hoping that our house sells soon, and that within the next month or so we are able to finalize our move to the great state of Mississippi.
