7 States in 10 Days

No, we haven't been to 7 states in 10 days recently, but that's what our family did during Spring Break in order to come and visit us. Gary's brother Andy, wife Kelly, and kids Jacob and Payton made the long trip all the way from Charlotte, NC to see us and to meet Mary Laine for the first time. The 7 states? North Carolina (obviously), Tennessee (where they stopped to visit Gary's sister and family), Mississippi (of course), Arkansas (we had to drive across the border and back so that they could say that they had been to Arkansas - literally across the border and then turned around and came right back!), Alabama (passing through), Georgia (where they stopped to visit Gary's parents), and South Carolina (just passing through on their way back home). Whew, what a trip! It was great to see them all. Thanks for spending your Spring Break with us! We miss you already!

Meeting cousin Jacob - he could get such great smiles out of her!

Snuggling with cousin Payton first thing in the morning

Here is a picture of Gary with newborn Jacob almost 10 years ago. I'll have to find a good one of Payton to post later. Gary and I started dating 10 days after Jacob was born.

Playing ball - it was great to get some quality time with Jacob and Payton! They're growing up so fast!

Payton was my big helper in the kitchen all week. She helped with every meal.

Jacob could get the biggest smiles out of Mary Laine - she LOVES him!

An afternoon at Twin Rivers (our Rec Center).

One of the highlights of the trip for Jacob and Payton was riding horses at my Aunt Jan's house. They did great. What did they do when they fell off the horse? They got back on - literally! Mary Laine also "saw" a horse for the first time (even though she pretty much slept through the entire experience). Thanks for a great afternoon, Aunt Jan!

Ray LaMontagne

I don't have any new cute pictures of my daughter to post on my work computer, but I finally downloaded the Ray LaMontagne album titled "Trouble" and had to promote it.  Ridiculous album that I would suggest to any music fans.  A true modern musician and lyricist in a music age that produces junk left and right.  Here is his web site.  "Trouble" downloads for $9 I think on ITunes.

Here is a glimpse of what we've been up to over the past couple of months:

Talking to Daddy on the phone

So tired! It was hard to get her to wake up

3 Months (I'll post the 4 month pic soon)

"I hate fantasy sports!!"

Snuggling with Daddy before bed

This smile just melts my heart!

In Honor of Mother's Day

My friend Dawn posted this song on her blog and I LOVED it.  It is a great reflection of my prayers for Mary Laine.

I do not know how I am to pray for this child
As a mother I don't want my baby denied
But in the waiting, in the waiting
I learned to hold on to the heart of God.

Every instinct in me wants to shield him from pain
Take the arrows of misery, heartache and blame
But in the sorrow, in the sorrow
I learned to hold on to the heart of God.

I only have two eyes - be all seeing
I only have two hands - be everywhere
I do not know enough - to be all knowing
I give this baby up into your care

I do not know how I am to pray for this child
I want to guard him from everything wicked and wild
but in the trial, in the trial
I learned to hold on
And in the trial, in the trial
I learned to hold on to the heart of God

And on the subject of not knowing how to pray for your child, another friend, Natalie, posted a great list of scriptual prayers for your children.  This has been a great aid to me in knowing how to better pray for Mary Laine.  There are 30 of them, so I focus on one spiritual attribute each day.
